Peculiar wire

I've been looking at what it would take to install a box to give me iphone mirroring and maybe a front camera. In the process I've found something odd.

A previous owner installed (or had installed) a wire supplying power to something. It's connected to a fuse tap in the underhood fuse box, runs across the firewall, goes into the passenger compartment just above the big hiring harness next to the brake booster. From there it goes up the left side A-pillar. That's as far as I have traced it so far.

This appears to be a somewhat professional install. The wire, which is violet by the way, is covered with the same kind of black fabric that seems to be used on much of the original MB wiring. Only a couple untrimmed wire ties and a less-than-ideal exit from the fusebox make it look any different than original wiring.

It's not powered when the car is off, so I'm thinking it might have been to a radar detector or a dashcam. I just don't see how anything could have been mounted up by the mirror without leaving some evidence behind.

Any thoughts?

I have a front camera and I had iphone mirroring.
The front camera works great. It gives me clear sight when going downhill / underground garage.
The reason I said I had iphone mirroring was because it stopped functioning after I upgraded iOS. Apparently Apple decided not to be backward compatible. The only safe bet is to use an Apple TV, but I don't know if that is feasible. Plus, the screen on SL has pretty low resolution. The mirrored image isn't very good quality unless you want to do something really fancy to change the screen on the car.
btw, the picture above was my car :P

The guy who did all the work for my car customized the mount from something he already had. Sorry I can't help you there.
