On the center console, surrounding the knob which seems to control most everything, are four push buttons. The one at the upper right (from the driver's perspective) is labeled "C". I looked in the owner's manual, and it is not mentioned, let alone discussed, anywhere. Nor, when pushing it, did I observe anything happening with my 2017 SL450.

Can anyone tell me what is the function of this button?

That button clears typing entries. One press of the button will clear one typed character. Holding the button will clear the entire line. See page 295 of the owners manual. Below is the actual text from Pg 295.

Clear button
X To delete individual characters: briefly
press the clear button.
X To delete an entire entry: press and hold
the clear button.
