SL550 : the economy car
Just returned from a trip to western Nebraska and back to Phoenix. Before I reached our destination I reset the trip screen and measured a 1,220 mile, three days of mostly highway driving and recorded 29.0 MPG. Stupidly I didn't reset the trip screen in the beginning to record the entire trip but the early daily results for the trip to Nebraska were about the same. I was so surprised by the result that I verified a portion the old fashion way measuring the MGP on a tank of gas. The car is giving an accurate MPG calculation.
On extended trips like this, I generally drive the speed limit +5. On this trip it included a lot of 80 MPH driving and up and down mountains.
I'm amazed! I'm delighted! This is much better than I anticipated. Anyone else getting this kind of performance?

SL550 Mileage
On a recent trip to Florida we cruised at 10 over and got 27.3 mpg. There was a bit of two lane included but for the most part it was four lane or interstate. So quite decent mileage iMO.

At around 80-85 I get up to around 26mpg; at 100-110 I still get 20-22, and that's with tuning. Pretty good mileage I think but why would anyone who drives an SL be concerned with fuel economy?

Hey, let's keep it nice.
I didn't hear anyone express "worry" about the car's MPG. However, when did having high MPG and reducing the cost of driving something to be embarrassed about? I just think it's great that a high performance engine can be so fuel efficient. As a newbie I was just wondering if others are having the same MPG results that I am seeing.

Thank you Putter. Your tone is much better than mine and the correct one.
I am glad I did not respond to Prius comment with my initial thoughts.
I feel that those of us with the funds to enjoy luxury/powerful cars like this can also care about
fuel "economy" from the environmental aspect and to also marvel at the technology that has evolved to give
us cars that can address both.
I will drive my SL and my Smart Car(a Mercedes product) and feel OK about both !
