On Board Computer Question.....

Can the computer on the current SL be tweaked to make the steering more sensitive or the shocks more pliable, or is this wishful thinking on my part? I am referring to going further than the Comfort, Sport and Sport + settings and using the STAR system.

Doubtful to say the very least. The star system may support fine adjustments within pre-defined tolerances.

Are you looking for something like Comfort+ or?
Not what you were asking for but the individual setting allows you to mix/match steering/suspension modes...

Not possible with our current generation of cars. Porsche however offers the sport plus steering upgrade for their cars which is a software upgrade for the electric steering module which is computer controlled (see Suncoast Porsche parts upgrade). I expect this for the next generation of SL or other Mercedes models. If you want more "feel" from the steering, may I suggest non-runflat tires. My car came with the Summer sport-Conti's and have better road feel. In two weeks, I will switch to Brabus springs for better handling. These two upgrades will change the steering (handling) for you. As for ride comfort, you could change the shocks and struts (non ABC cars) when you are ready.

More curious than anything how far the computer interface can be stretched.
The gear shifting between comfort, sport and sport+ is very obvious but I cannot tell much difference in the steering and shock cushion in the different settings. Maybe it's old age!
