2014 sl550 trunnk problems
Mt trunk opens with the internal switch and the handle but wont stay open, it gets to the full open position and then starts to slowly close, if you push it up it still tries to close.
Anyone had this same problem?, FYI it will close normally with the two push buttons.
thanks

I think you are correct that the pneumatic assists are failing as I have been in warm weather for a while with no problems and now returning to cold weather the problem has returned.
I have another car with these assists on the doors and when it gets cold they also do not work properly.
Thanks for the help, I shall see how much they cost and probably do the job myself as it is easy to get to them.

My '13 just started doing the same thing. It's been brutally cold here for a while but not sure they are related. Mine is CPO cerfifed until June '18 so will get it taken care of under warranty.

Yep it's the lift supports. The hydraulic ram to raise the trunk is not what holds it up, just the gas struts do that. When they fail, they do exactly what you describe, it opens then falls back down on it's own.

My 2013 exhibits the same cold weather trunk closing issue. My 'work-around' has been to manually hold the trunk release lever above the license plate while the trunk is open, and it then locks and operates normally when closed. Perhaps an issue with a sensor? Just a SWAG, but I am in the shop next week for scheduled maintenance and will see what the gurus have to say about that. I do find it interesting that we seem to have the same issue only in cold weather.

I started having this problem as well - I replaced both struts myself in under 2 minutes - they can be had for around $50 each on parts.com and the part number is 2319800264 - do check your struts with a flashlight before ordering to make sure - the part ending in 264 is for the electronic opening/closing trunk.

Trunk problem
Have customer with 2013 SL 550 with trunk doesn’t lift or close self. Car is key less go . Convertible works fine , storage help doesn’t. No fault codes in system . Try to normalize with xentry opens fine butt close just couple inches and stops, staying not normalized. All actuall value in system OK .
Any ideas?
