SL/R231: Engine start/stop button not working

Engine start/stop button not working
I just purchased a like new 2011 SL550 , everything seems to work great except the engine start/stop button on the shifter , I do hold down the brake pedal , but nothing . I was told it could be the extra battery is bad . What should I look for ?

Are there any messages that pop up in the cluster display when you do this and the vehicle doesn't start? Try pressing the button on the shifter and hold the key in your hand to see if the red LED flashes after you try to start it using the button.
