There isn't a SL350. Are you thinking SL400? Great deals on SL's in the UK AFAIK so if you are used to a bit more power, you might like the SL500 better. By far (with a few options) the best top-down cruiser one can buy. Better build but slower than the SVR but a different purpose vehicle.

Or keep both My recommendation is to take the SL for a long test drive and see how the car fits the lifestyle and driving preferences. Both the Jag and the SL are high depreciation vehicles.

Good luck!

This is what I was thinking of. Not this one just using the image to show the 350 badge.

Go for a 550 or 63 instead, you will miss the power and sound from the Jag too much. The SL350 is adequate but it may feel a little slow coming from an F Type R.

You are right. That model was available in several countries before it was killed off in 2014. I would strongly recommend to stay away from that car as it is quite under powered for its weight and its a naturally aspirated engine vs the twin turbo of the SL400 that replaced it...

No more MB:(
Go with a 400/450. Whole different experience. SL is such a more well rounded experience. I can drive with the top down, massage seats on, pass another car and take a call at the same. Pure luxury. Spring for the V8 if you can, but from reviews and feedback here on the forum, the 400/450 has great pick up and performance.

...and better handling (less weight on the front wheels). Also the 9spd gearbox on both the facelift V8 and V6 is a big improvement on the 7spd.

I did look at the Jags when thinking about my SL but the interior put me right off them.

SL 350 R231
I've had a few Jags over the years, last one was an S Type for 11years In that time I've been a member of the JEC and read about the surface rust on the subframes on the F Type ( not good on a new car) I've recently bought a 2013 SL 350 with 32k on the clock, and being a mechanic I went through the car when I first bought it, and it's like new underneath The power of the engine suits me fine 306 HP but if you want a bit more grunt go for the bigger units. So all in all the Merc is in my opinion a lot better made car,not without it's faults but what car isn't.

I traded my Jaguar XKR for an SL 550 a couple months ago. I test drove several 450s first but the lack of power compared to the XKR pushed me into the 550. I believe you would regret going for a six cylinder SL.

What do they say on the Jag forums? Ask your question here and the answers are bound to be heavily biased, don’t you think?

How do you drive your Jag? Are you putting all that massive torque to use a lot of the time? Most folks would not. If you fall into that group, I highly recommend you look for an SL450, the best iteration of the R231 cars, in my humble opinion. Way more power than most drivers will ever need. Find one with the fabulous Active Body Control or “ABC” option and you will have the best of all luxury GT worlds. AND, the hardtop folds down! Just don’t plan on enjoying the audio system, as they are all truly horrible.

Absolutely beautiful. Problem is they don't make em anymore.
Getting back to the power and performance bit I'm in my mid 60's so speed isn't top of my list. The 350 is more than adequate for me, but as others have said there are more powerful engines to choose from.

The difference in motive power between the 350 and the 450 is DAY AND NIGHT! We recently traded my wife’s 2016 E350 sedan for a 2019 E450 Wagon. The difference in drivability is truly stunning. If you can make the leap to the turbo V6, you will never regret it.

As for the R231 having been discontinued, I believe that you are in the right place at the right time. There are a lot of pristine examples coming off lease right now and the pickings are just wonderful! Good luck in your search. These are GREAT cars!

Great thing with SL it's a car can use in the city not care about bumps and bangs, boy racers, instagram junkies, or losers ripping roof or keying pait.plus has the best interior and durability after F type.

Can literally buy next to new one for 1/2 price enjoy stress free for 4+ years and give it to a GF lol.

Better to spend the money on business jets and nice clothes if want to impress anyone haha way bigger bang for the buck.

Another point: if you fit comfortably inside your F-Type R, you'll rattle around in an SL. I'm only 6'2", but I don't fit in that car...yet I have plenty of room in my SL.

Can anybody comment on the relative ride qualities / quietness / refinement between the SL (non ABC) and the F-Type (non R)?
