A lot of us will be watching this release closely, much anticipated for sure. The soft top is hard enough to swallow, but a 2+2? This will be interesting for sure.

I saw a Jaguar F-Type on vacation, hadn't seen one before. Priced it out on their website with similar equipment to my SL400, about the same money, $95,000, but you choose hard or soft top....

By hardtop you mean a coupe. Convertibles are soft top only and nowhere close to an SL in terms of quality or interior finish. SVR drives decent though.

It's a platform mule. This has nothing to do with the body design. You will not see any cars that will resemble the next SL until early next year or so...

What makes you think it will be a 2+2?

I was at a local dealer two days ago and they had the new Concours Edition S560 Sedan. It is a $140K+ special edition, similar to this SL. All that money for a special interior, wheels & paint, but no MBC or “Magic Body Control.” Phooey! Just doesn’t make sense to me, just like this Grand Edition SL without ABC. If they are going to make a “GRAND” Edition, it should be, well, “GRAND!” It should have ALL the bells & whistles, IMO.

By the way, some sources are saying that this car is painted in Graphite Grey Metallic, a color “exclusive” to the Grand Edition, but that is absolutely false. MB is building many, regular SL’s & other models in that color. Saw one at the dealer yesterday.

I wanted the 2+2 version and got a maxed-out E53 Cabriolet--for a lot less than anything with an S in the name. I wonder how this model will compare. I am sure it will have an AMG variant with more power, but other than that, it is not clear.

Looks like according to that article in motor1 the transmission in the new sl will be 8 speeds instead of the current 9 speed?

So how will a 2+2 SL be different from a S-Class Cabriolet? Doug DeMuro did a spot-on analysis of the current SL's identity crisis. To me, offering 2+2 SL just seems confusing, unless they're eliminating the A217?

They are eliminating the S-class cab.
