Post Center Console Disassembly

I'm in the process of installing one of these babies in my SL and I need to run a cable from the screen back to the Media Interface port. I have the cable run as far as the front of the cupholders. Does anybody know how to disassemble the center console area to run the cable back to the armrest storage?

I would think you'd wanna check that before you take your SL63 apart, though the OE head units look the same. I'd think Chris the Swede could tell you...

Sorry, it doesn't say it works in that thread, but it does work. I thought you were just asking about the thread.

Chris sells the same SLK unit as R172 and R231 compatible. I bought the SLK model from Carlife Mall who confirmed it would work with the R231. Everything works as advertised, I just have to figure out how to tuck that one wire away and install the mount for the aftermarket plastic surround trim, then I can put everything back together!

any pictures of finished install??

how do you like it. i looked into it but the way it sat on top kinda to the right and partially blocking the vents kept me away.

thanks

Here’s a previous thread about taking the center console apart. I took mine apart two weeks ago and basically worked off the info from this thread.
Hope it helps.

Mine came apart as a unit. It pretty much snapped back into place.
Are you saying that the cover came out of the tracks that it rides in or that you can’t get the assembly back in its place?

it it is the first part that you kinda pull out covering the sides of the rolltop. i am unable to push it back to its spot. weird issue.

If it’s the leather side panel to the center console that you’re referring to the back of the panel has to be inserted with its clip first. Then the panel snaps in one clip at a time until you get to the glovebox (passenger side obviously). That end has to be “flexed” a little to allow the forward clip to snap in. Not sure if this is what you mean though. How about a picture tomorrow?

I did take that part off but it went back in fairly easy. I believe I pushed the back end of it first, lifting the front up to “hook” the back into place.

Mercedes SL400 facelift (R231)
R231 centre cup holder tray

I have a 2017 SL400 R231 and a whole load of bits and pieces have dropped behind the lift up flap on the centre console (just below the radio) Does anyone know how to remove the whole tray unit to access the space below to redeem my bits? (pens and some cash). Thanks for any help.

There are two bolts (number 3) underneath the shift lever/selector cover. Kind of a pain but doable.

see attached WIS sections:

Good Luck
