Mileage Query

Just wondering what kind of mileage our group puts on their cars. My 2013 is set to roll over 40K within the next week; bought in 2016 with 14, 578 on the odometer, so in the past three plus years, I am averaging about 8K per year. Curious about what the highest mileage member we have, as well as what is considered 'normal' mileage for the group. Your answers are most appreciated. Drive on!

My SL is not a daily driver, rather a weekend fun car. I have averaged 6k per year so far.

I put on right around 1000 miles a month on my SL. During bad weather, ie, snow, sleet, heavy rain, I use my wife's GLK. The vast majority of my miles are going to and coming from playing racquetball. It's been this way for going on 10 years now. I keep my cars for 3 years, then get a new MB.

My SL’s have always been second cars. I had my 2004 SL500 for 12 years and sold it with only 22,000 miles on it, so less than 2,000 a year. This new one I just got will probably see about the same.

SL was always the summer car for us. 10-12k annually. Sedan has the winter duty unless we go out with friends. SUV covers Home Depot runs and other errands...

My 2013 is my daily driver. I put about 1000/month on it to and from work. I just bought it with 30K about 5 month ago, and in now has approx 35K.

I put about 25k miles per year on whatever I am driving. I'll split between my 2019 Volvo XC60 R Design and my SL400. Probably a 60/40 Volvo/MB mix. Good thing my SL only had 5000 miles on the clock when I bought it.

Up to 60K now ,one of the longest times ever for me having the same car, after the Jack Nicholas Lincoln Town Car in the 90's(loved that car, white leather interior and the trunk space) patiently waiting for the (NEW) 2020/1?? The C8 will lessen the wait, but won't get my hands on one till next year........looks like a winner for Chevrolet, got mine specced out at just under 90K. Even has "The Lift" like our ABC. Need that with my driveway.

So the basis for my original question is that our SL is the third set of wheels in our garage; and as noted we average about 8K miles per year, most of that is touring about the East Coast of the US. I am partial to the mountains. So I have a six year old, 40K mile SL that just keeps on giving, and so far has not done much taking (upkeep $$$), this car is rock solid. I do love my Lunar Blue, with grey interior, and really don't want to trade that configuration for a newer, black dash model. So I am at a cross roads, do I keep it? Or trade it on a newer black dash model? The tangential thought is an E63 wagon; as I do have a high lust factor for that ride. And OMG, the fury of that car is most equal to the SL, but there is that top down thing that keeps my attention with the SL. I fear I have CADD: Car Attention Deficit Disorder. Stay tuned.

Your car is truly lovely and just about NOBODY understands the “black dash” problem like I do. The two-tone gray interior is stunning and for them to change the dark gray to black was just another cost cutting measure on a car that the bean counters at MB would prefer to just die a silent death. That said, to get the 9-speed tranny and continue that top down experience, you might bite the bullet and keep your eyes open for a gently used 2019 or 2020, preferably with ABC. Sorry, but no more Lunar Blue either. I wanted a solid, “fire engine” red, but I acquiesced and settled for white—which I now love. The E63 wagon is an amazing car, I’m sure. But, the opportunities to truly use all that torque & HP are few & far between and then there is also the possibility that you’ll kill yourself doing so. I know I’m biased, but the SL is truly special and will soon be leaving us, as we know and love it. Stay with the SL!

I would never trade my SL for any enclosed car. One of the great things about a convertible that most folks driving enclosed cars miss are the wonderful smells like driving after a heavy rain. I drive a lot of rural winding roads in my area for pleasure. In early Summer I love the smell of fresh cut hay being baled. In the Fall rural folks still burn piles of raked up leaves and a lot BBQ on weekends in small towns where the smells are wonderful. I have a weekend house in a tiny Texas town with less than 25 houses and one neighbor bakes hand made pies for extra money. Driving by her house and the flavors coming from her kitchen bring back childhood memories of my Grandmother. Ok, so I am weird but top down driving is the best!

Streamliner and Utopia, I agree with both your sentiments. Decisions, decisions, decisions. So like, do you ever stop for one of those pies? I get hungry just thinking about that! Thanks all.

Where I live, there are no aromas of fresh baked pies, fresh cut hay or burning leaves. But, I will say that my SL is driven primarily up and down the Pacific Coast Highway and the scent of clean, ocean washed, salt tinged air is just wonderful. Living in the greater L.A./Orange County area all my life, I soon came to the conclusion that if one must live in this crazy, “La-La Land,” the closer you are to the ocean, the better. Also, as I get older, I find my tolerance for sun and heat to be diminishing, so I try to take the SL out on cool mornings. When I was younger, I once drove an SL from L.A. to Sacramento, in the summer, all the way with the top down! Today, that drive is reserved for my big, comfy sedan. The SL is never driven on the freeway, never in the rain and rarely with the top up. What can I say? It’s my toy.
