2013 R231 text messaging

Hi All,

Happy to be back here after a brief hiatus from the brand. Still have my 230 and now my new to me 231 too so very happy.

I'm inquiring as to the ability for an android phone to read aloud text messages in my car. My wife has a 2012 E class and she still uses an old WindowsPhone10 and it has always announced texts and asks if she wants to read it or ignore. If she say read, it reads out the text and then she is asked if she wants to reply, call or end. I really thought my Android should be able to do that but I'm not having much luck. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Just did it today in the 2013; had the system read me text messages from my Samsung Galaxy S7. On the Comand system, engage the phone setting, and it's at the bottom of the screen 'read text', and it does.

There's hope! So you have intro like "you've got a text" or you just get a notification? Cheers mate!

As I recall, in the Comand screen, next to the strength of signal bars, you get an envelope that shows you have a text; you then go to phone, and on the bottom bar of the screen, you go to text. It then lists the texts, and you can 'ask' the system to read you the text. Then it gives you the option to call the texter, but I must not be smart enough to figure out to verbally reply to the text.

Well, after a few hours I was able to get it connected and reading the message out loud over the cars speakers but... It's useless. All it does is pause everything and read the message. It does not give you the ability to ask if you want to read it or reply, etc. If you never have a passenger, I guess is partially a good thing but, I really do not wan't my texts read aloud when I have passengers. It appears that my old Windows Phone did in fact have this feature built into the OS with no workaround needed. Given that Android is the most popular mobile phone in the world, you would think this would be a basic ask. Oh well. Thanks for the responses.
