The Run Flat Tires On My 2019 SL550 Are So Quiet Because...

Because they are “Summer Rated”, designed and made specifically for MB and not technically “Run Flat” tires?
Read the information below and tell me what you think.
These tires are actually more quiet than the Michelin Pilot Sports I had On the ‘’17.....

These Continentals are the exact tires that the dealer installed on my 2015 SL during the CPO certification process. I find the ride, without ABC, to be perfectly acceptable. Of course I am coming from a C7 Corvette. I have had over 20 years experience with "runflat" tires on numerous BMWs. The earlier tires were much worse in terms of ride quality, handling and wear. The current assortment of runflat tires is much better and I find them acceptable. I do wish Continental offered a runflat model of their DWS06 all season ultra high performance tire. I have had 3 sets of this tire on various cars and SUVs and find them to be an excellent choice for use in all weather conditions including light snow.

Yes, those same tires came on my SL450. They are LIGHT YEARS better than the early generation run flats, as were the Bridgestone EL400-02 run flats that came on my 2018 S560 sedan. I could have lived with either of those tires, if forced to. However, after making the switch to all season conventional tires, there is still a noticeable improvement. As mentioned previously, I put the A/S 3+ tires on the SL and am very pleased with the improvement in the ride quality. You get more of a “cushioned” feel when hitting sharp bumps.

Had those too. Mercedes, Porsche and other brands have special tires made for them even if the tire model, brand and size is available otherwise. That is typically for special rubber formulations, sidewall strength, etc.

Come to think of it, did you post pics of your new toy? How come you went with a SL550 now?

Yes, I made another post about it asking about run flats earlier and attached a photo. Post title “Michelin vs Michelin”.

I decided that the SL hard top is my favorite back roads car and have been looking to buy a newer model before the 4 seat soft top comes out. I found a new ‘19 in the same Cardinal Red as my ‘17 but with upgraded leather, ABC, 8 cylinder and Magic Sky so figured this was the one I’ll be keeping a extended time. I love the simplicity of the current SL, dislike all the huge touch screens coming out and figured this was the time to make the switch. Visually the only difference in the new SL are different wheels and black interior. Very happy with the purchase though the depreciation on the ‘17 was to say the least quite a eye opener!

PS- Had window tint installed yesterday and having Xpel applied from the windshield forward next Monday....
