SL/R231: Anyone else get this “metalflake” effect?

I have seen this on other SL’s. I believe, but do not know for sure, that it is caused by extensive exposure to the sun.

Also called “C pillar panel”. There’s a couple of threads on this in the r230 forum you can find by searching there. R230 guru Ruedney confirms its caused by sun exposure and has a link to DIY replacement instructions if you’re so inclined. Part is reportedly about $100 and is held in place by a plastic catch underneath.

I have the exact same thing on my R230 and on that one, I have just put tint on it. That said, since its under warranty you have nothing to worry about.

Yes! A dealer comes through! Guess it happens every now and again. I have this same thing going on with my car, but it's just the window section......I was going to use a wrap LOL.

Quick question, I see that you removed the side skirts, are you planning on placing them? also I think the triangle behind the front wheel arches would complete the awesome look.
For the wing btw did you fabricate that look or can you buy the wing ready to go as the one you have?
