do a burnout?

Even if I switch into Sport mode traction, I can't get it to do a burnout. Flooring it with my foot on the brake just makes it go up to 2k rpms for a bit but then it bog back down to 700 rpms or so.

I've had it spin the tires before when taking off from a stop, but I want to run it at the track and need to do a standing burnout (there's no way around the water pit). Any tips? I must be missing something.

Which SL, year, engine, transmission, mileage, modifications?

Not much help from me. Though I drive spiritedly I do not do burnouts with my cars. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Probably have to turn off traction control. I have seen links to youtube videos of people turning this off and placing the car into a dyno mode. Might be worth googling.

There's a reason it's called the SL 'Class'

Seriously?....

Maybe you would be much happier with a Dodge 'Hellcat' if 'burnouts' are your thing!...

Wow, you guys are boring, burnouts are awesome! Turn off your traction control completely to do a burnout. If you find a way to put it in dyno mode, it completely disables ABS and all TCS.

Yes, turn off traction control by holding the button and the display will tell you when it's off......they're so easy! Love doing it in my CLS from time to time

I turned off traction control by holding the button (and it shows "off" in the cluster), but it still does the same thing. I searched the forums and it seems this (not being able to do a standing burnout) is an issue for many MB cars. What many people have suggested is to do a slow roll followed by flooring it and hitting the brake, which pretty much works.

Going into dyno mode isn't really practical if I want to run the car at the track in something other than dyno mode. I'm not sure if it works or not, regardless.

Hold the brake tight and step on the gas until you start to see smoke.

I can understand a burnout done at a drag strip, just before a run. Other than that, my opinion is that burnouts are immature and ridiculous. Depending where they are done, they can also be dangerous.

Oh come on Sir!! Immature? Ridiculous? How about FUN and EXCITING? Were you young at one point in life? No disrespect here.....just saying To feel that power behind you and see the smoke.....is plainly a rush! What is the harm? Find a safe spot......no cars around.........no police..........and let it rip! These cars have so much power it's silly! AND we're keeping the rubber industry too

My friend, you and I will simply have to disagree on this. I thought burnouts were cool, when I was a teenager. Since then, not so much.

When a bit younger I had a '67 Camaro, 327 c.i., 350 h.p., four speed. Got tired of buying rear tires, they were red line tires from the Firestone dealer. But the smoke it laid down! Now, you can go to a drifting event and get the same effect, and the same lung full of charred rubber! Or a World of Outlaws Sprint Car event.
