Buying a sl550

I am wanting to buy a sl550 in the next few months. I am 6’3 and I’m wondering if it will be comfortable for me with enough leg room. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Gonna be tight on the headroom, but should be okay on legroom. Go sit in one at a dealer.

With the top down there is plenty of head room! 😁

Definitely something to check out first or you may end up like Tom Selleck in Magnum PI - don’t think he could fit in the Ferrari with the top up.

Depends on your build. Long legs or long torso?

I'm 6'2". Legroom and headroom is no problem at all. I have a very upright driving position (apparently the correct driving position) and the only issue if any, is that with the roof down the wind ruffles the top of my head. This only an issue driving with the roof open in winter as the top of my head gets cold and I need a hat.

FWIW, this Recaro Youtube repeats on what I was taught on a "High Performance Driving" course a couple of years ago (2 days, mostly driving around a racetrack in the SL)

Close to 6'3" here. Never had an issue or the feeling that my head touched the top. No problem getting in/out either. Only caveat is that we always had the Magic Sky. That one has probably another 1/2" or so due to the missing panorama roof shade.
Different story in the AMG GTC. Twist and turn into that one

6'3" here, big frame, 265 lbs. No problems with room, but there are times when I do bump my head entering or exiting the vehicle. Once inside, plenty of room.

If someone is tall enough to need that extra 1/2", they're not going to be able to see past the windshield header without ducking anyway. I'm 6'2" and I've been looking for a 450. I test-drove a '17 450 (without MSC) about a week ago, and found that the seat will adjust so far down that I had way more headroom than I knew what to do with. The OP will be fine...

That reminds me of a 1970's Road & Track road test of a gasoline-powered pogo stick. Features were that it had "infinite headroom" and "turns on a dime." The article gave specs for "hops per gallon" but quarter mile times were very long.

That brings back memories. They did (do?) an 'April Fools' road test each year in their April issue. One year, they tested the Goodyear blimp. If I remember correctly, they had to increase the skid pad radius to something like 1/2 mile.

yes I remember the blimp road test. They also tested a Greyhound bus which had a warranty of one year or 100,000 miles. The only option was a dreaded lavatory warning light which could come on at any moment while the driver was looking ahead a mile or more for traffic.

One of my other non-April-Fool tests was of a Porsche 911S which in its day was considered very very fast. The subtitle to the road test was "Performance of an American Supercar without the stigma low-cost."

What a fantastic line! Another one should have been "Porsche: Expect Avarice"

Yes! Exorbitant in 1967! $7200 and an awesome 180hp, 0-60 in around 6.5 sec.
(Nearly twice the cost of my 1st BMW, a new 1968 2002, one of the 1st in the USA.)
