SL/R231: R232

I certainly could be wrong but by my read, Mercedes will be basing future engines on a mild hybrid system in either a 2 Liter 4-cylinder, 3 Liter straight 6 (like the M256 engine in the "53" series in my CLS53) or a 4 liter V8 (which will be two 2 Liter 4s.) These will all have the same bore to allow all of these to be machined by the same milling machines and provide significant fuel mileage improvements over that of previous "55", "550" "63" non-hybrids.
Perhaps Mercedes will offer a few "55" models with leftover engines. Perhaps there will be a 6 Liter V12 with two banks on the 3-cylinder straight 6. Could this be the basis for the "73" engine designation? Or perhaps, given the "e" added to yield "73e" this is a pure electric or perhaps a 4-Liter V8 with electric motors at each wheel.
Ain't if fun to speculate?
PS -- here is a link to an excellent AutoWeek article from July of 2017 about the M256 engine which incorporates the 48 volt flywheel motor, turbocharger and "supercharger/compressor" --the future of Mercedes engine lineup:
