I changed the mirror cover in the car workshop.
This is a description from a German site
Installation is as follows:
- Swing the mirror all the way down and pull it off from above, if necessary slightly raise the mirror holder with a hoe
- The mirror heater and if necessary. Disconnect the blind spot warning cable
- Loosen two small screws that fix the lower part
- Remove the upper part of the mirror by loosening the latch over the motor (this is a bit difficult if you have no experience)
- Disconnect the plug connection of the previous LED from the lower part of the mirror
- Now clip out the lower part of the mirror and remove it
- Clip in the new mirror base, screw in two screws and create the wiring (plugs fit before / after 1: 1)
- Put the upper part of the mirror back on, here attention with regard to the plug of the turn signal lamp
- Restore the mirror wiring and reinsert the mirror
Time expenditure:
It took me about 25 minutes, but I had no experience with mirror removal.
Finished.

The part is for the mirror to project an MB image on the ground as you drive?

Yea, I thought it was only me. I find them pointless, don't like them and would never pay to have them. The light at the door is nice but the LOGO.......just naff. However we are all different.

Did your 2017 have them, too? I won't be with my car again until late next week, so I don't know if mine has them or not. If it has them, I won't mind. If it doesn't...I won't mind.
While personally, I can take or leave this projector, I'm getting that some of you consider these to be...superfluous, if not downright garish. That's the way I feel about the superfluous, ridiculously-huge tri-star grill emblem...which is needlessly mounted directly underneath the tastefully-small MB emblem on top of the bumper that at least echos the one projected by this L.E.D. To each, his own, indeed.

And now, in the USA at least, you can no longer order an E Class sedan with the traditional grille and the little star on top of the hood. All will now come only with the gigantic star in the grille. AND, if you want to be really special, you can have your great, big star LIGHT UP!

I think some of you are looking too hard to find things to complain about.
Complaining about the size of the Mercedes star on the SL grill? Really?
It’s only been there in that size, along with the small star on the hood, for the last seventy years or so. This is essential SL design.
If this is an issue maybe it’s time to look for another car

Nope. Those sensors are not that large and it is very easy to make them more compact. Look at other manufacturers like Toyota. They have the sensors behind their regularly sized emblems.

This is a radar sensor (about 3"*3"). But the size is irrelevant. The star is as big as it was for seven decades and perfectly sized for the SL. Literally one thing that Mercedes didn't touch and happy for it

I just checked mine and it does have it...I hadn't noticed it because I turned off the delayed exterior surround lighting, and these projectors are part of that group.
This one is silly, too. We just forgive that fact because the rest of the car is so cool.
We differ.
