Remote Start

Hello all. Purchased a 2016 SL 550 Monday, 33k miles. Love it. Question: does this car have remote start from Mercedes me App, or from Fob? Thought I would ask here first then call Dealership. Thanks in advance.

I don't believe remote start was offered as an OEM option for the R231 model. Others will correct me if I'm mistaken.

Hi mcpousnret -
We have a starter working for that vehicle platform, actually. Just finished development and we are finishing up getting this packaged up to be a sellable product.
It would require the EIS / key cylinder be sent to us for modification and would also require the sacrifice of one of your vehicle key fobs.
If interested, please contact us and we can discuss getting one made for your vehicle.

Also, feel free to take a look at our website and read our reviews online. We stand behind our work.

When I bought my SL at the end of May this year, I had to acknowledge and sign a MB document that said if I modified/added-to/subtracted-from my car's electrical system in any way my warranties (both O.E.M. and C.P.O.) would be voided. Just laying that out there...

I would have asked the dealer if they have ever heard of the Magnuson Moss Act and refused to sign. That said, I didn't have to deal with any such doc when purchasing my CPO SL550.

Hi Bob,
Was this a dealer or MB document? There was no need to sign this likely is not legal either. Mercedes does have the right to flag the vehicle if they detect a third party modification, such as a tune, bigger turbos, etc. but they cannot deny an unrelated claim (let's say the Comand goes bad). This is designed to counter people messing with their engines, etc.
But it is driven by the dealer reporting it to MB. If you have modifications but a good dealer relationship, this will likely not occur.

If the car is flagged (think its R status), the dealer cannot perform any warranty repair unless approved by MBUSA. A nuisance but again, they cannot deny unrelated coverage.

Obviously, you are not a "modder" so this will not apply but I suggest not to sign such documents.
