Nice Surprise

Opened up the compartment behind the passenger seat to install a pigtail for one of my CTEKs and this is what I found. Hooked it up and it lit up just as expected. Now I can try and extend the life of this battery.
Clearly the previous owner forgot to remove the pigtail when they traded the car.

Is your car under warranty? As we are all trying to find ways to force extra care on our auxiliary batteries, I recalled having to sign a MB acknowledgement document that states if you in any way add-to/modify the car's electrical system, your warranties will be voided. If they sold you a car with a warranty and the pigtail, that would contradict their own document. Hmmmm...

MB sells its own MB branded CTEK maintainer. I highly doubt using battery maintainer, especially MB branded, constitutes a "breach" of factory electronics.

Yes, my CPO ended on June 18, 2020 and my 2 year extension is in effect until June 18, 2022. My dealer accessed this battery a couple months ago and must have seen the pigtail. They made no mention of it.
I cannot imagine how using a maintainer would void this warranty.

I connect my charger to the jump start points as recommended in the owners manual.

I use the connections under the hood to maintain the main battery but my understanding is the auxiliary battery is on a separate circuit and thus has to be connected separately.

I'm not 100% sure - however I understand that the AUX battery controls (amongst other things) the Eco/Stop/Start. If my car has stood for a couple of weeks, the Eco is not available until I've driven for about 30 minutes. (Goes from amber to green). If I leave the car on the charger when not in use, ECO is always green when I get in to drive!

To me, it does not seem logical to supply jumper/charging points that would not charge all batteries and thus oblige people to connect an accessory charging point for the auxillary which is tucked away in an inaccessible point.

I’ve confirmed on my vehicle that the Aux battery is not charged when the main battery is charged from an external charger. It’s possible your vehicle is wired differently. If so, I wish mine was like yours.

I’m not sure, but another explanation may be:

1. It’s very common for vehicle Power Management Systems to monitor the main battery voltage and limit power to non-essential loads when the battery voltage is below a predetermined level.

2. Eco mode is most likely designated a non-essential load. Therefore, if the main battery is low, the Power Management System limits power to the Eco circuits until the main battery is sufficiently charged and capable of handling heaver loads, such as frequently starting the vehicle.

Again, not sure, but it seems logical.
