2019 POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY RECALL

Does anybody have experience with this recall? It appears thy're offering a vehicle buy back.

Recall Number
19V768000
Recall Date
10/25/2019
Component
POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY
SummaryMercedes-Benz USA, LLC. (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2019 SL450, SL63 AMG, and SL550 vehicles. Over time, the bolt connection at the front-left mounting point on the rear axle carrier casting may fail, possibly affecting the vehicle's handling.
ConsequenceUnexpected changes in the vehicle's handling can increase the risk of a crash.

What Owners Should DoMBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front-left mounting point of the rear axle carrier. If a defect in the bolt connection of the rear axle carrier is found, MBUSA will contact the owner and offer a repurchase of the vehicle. The recall began November 22, 2019. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2019100018.

This place is a joke.
It only affects 36 cars.

Yes, thankfully not too many... 36 in the U.S. and 24 in Canada. I’ll be calling MB first thing tomorrow.

Some additional info from MB here: (links to 3 MB pdf. docs addressing the recall and fix). Thankfully I dodged a bullet on this one; I hope all of you do as well.

At first I thought they meant that the mount on the diff casting was failing, but if they're offering a buy-back it must be a mount on the body that's letting go...

Sorry for the double. Everything locked up when I went to post and when it came back, there were two. Sure wish we could delete when this happens.

The second link (above in the 4th post) downloads a MB pdf. doc that explains the problem and the fix, and it also includes pictures.

Recall Lookup by VIN

I assume you all know that this link shows recalls by VIN:https://www.mbusa.com/en/recall

and it's of note that the recall info from MBUSA says:

"A change in the production procedure of our supplier ensures that this was Corrected in Production : issue can no longer occur from May 13, 2019 onwards."

So you can check recalls for your VIN and check the production date on the sticker on the B pillar inside the driver's door. Production after 5/13/19 apparently is OK. Please let us know if you find this recall for your VIN 'cause I'm not sure that Mercedes has listed all affected vehicles on this page. Just because the recall link does not list your VIN, all may not be OK with your vehicle (or mine).
