City Light

Hi new here on the site.

I have an SL63 R231 2013 Model I have a problem with my daytime running lights (I think they are called City Lights in English, those orange parking lights) when I open up the car with the remote control then the light flashes on both sides, so do them when I close it. When I use the turn signals, they also flash to the right / left. but when I start the car and turn on the parking light on the left it does not work. Rart. I have tried to get the Fuse and realy diagram for my 2013 model R231 here in Norway and they have tried to get it from Germany but it is not available as of today. Is there anyone who has had this problem or who can help me out there

?
Sorry for the big image, can`t reduce it any more, have tryed several times with online generators.

The fact that the lights function leads me to believe this is not a fuse issue. I'm more inclined to believe the switch to turn on the city lights may be defective.

Hi WN1X. Yhanks for replay.

I have checket the fuse Number 127/128 beside the driver door,/stearing wheel and it was nothing wrong whit those, so I was thinking on the relay, yester day I was sitting here there was just the same Ide dropped into my head. Do yo know how I can meassure it, is it possible?

Regards Norway.

The LED has likely failed in a way that does not result in an electrical fault, since parts are not available for the headlight replacement is the only option.

Hi. VII
I`m a greenhorn to this car and all about electrical issued stuff. Got this beauty in September 2020 for my 50th birthday and loved it right away.
As i did say, the blinker is working and the alarm light, even the hazard light is working, so I think it`s strange that the city light (parklight) aint working.
Can a Icarsoft or other devices like that pick up such error messages from the car system?

If an electrical fault was detected you would get an error on the dashboard, the reason the other funtions work is because that is another LED (Brighter).

HI VII.
I have not got any fault massage on the dashboard. Thats why I`m wondering what`s going on here, is it the light switch or a relay or lamp itself? Or is it just the winter and the car is freezing, It`s an import car from USA
Anyone that have the right schematic for R231 for me? It did not follow the car.

Regards Norway

It is not the switch, your problem is likely the LED in the light itself or very unlikely in the LED voltage converter (module below the headlight).

Note this is not fused and there is no relay.

Hi VII.
I`m starting to understand that. I`m learning under way. I`m all alone, there is no one to ask for help here I live, 120 km for nearest Mercedes garage. I`m the only one that have a car like this in the North of Norway as I have been told, with other words 500 750 km range, maby 1000 km. So it is not an average car

do you think that it is not the light switch that is the problem, but the light itself that is the problem

Yes, as stated it is likely the light, the other possibility would be the module below the light but that is very unlikely (that would usually trigger a fault).

Does your fault occur when the dash switch is in "auto"?

In "auto" should allow all functions including signaling L and R lane change

Work OK if in "auto" ?

Before you go digging around trying to solve this problem - make sure that your parking lights are not functioning normally.
On the SL, parking lights can be used to indicate the side of the car facing the centre of the road. If you look closely, there will be an arrow on the headlight switch - if it is facing right, and the dial is in that position, the right daytime running light or marker light and tail light will illuminate. If the dial is in the position of the left arrow, the left daytime running light or marker light and tail light will illuminate.

Set the switch into one of these positions and confirm this. Personally, I don't think the car has any issue at all - you just need to give your owner's manual a read-through!

Hi Keon.
Thank you for answering me. I have gone through all the points that are on the light switch and the lights that you see in the pictures are stable at all points on the switch. It deals with whether it is on park lights left, right, auto and driving lights. Regards VikingBoy
