Which wheels?

First pic is the five spoke, which I really like. My car came with the second pic, which is the multispoke. Much more expensive wheels, especially in the UK as they come with the black gloss interior. The five spokes were never available in the UK so have rarity value. I am thinking about buying a set as I really think they suit the car's flowing curves better than the turbine like multispokes.

Second question. I am surprised that the USA configurator is still up and running, given that the car has ceased production. I have chose Obsidian Black in the first pic along with the five spoke wheels. However, on the USA configurator, Graphite Gray seems darker (as in the second pic) compared to Obsidian! Is this really true in real life?

Configurator is available here. Have a look at Obsidian vs Graphite. I already have the Obsidian, but is Graphite really darker? Can you see the difference in the pictures? First is Obsidian, which may have a slightly brownish tinge, second is Graphite, which on the configurator, looks darker.

Whichever ones are worth more on the used market so you can sell them and get some aftermarket ones!

The AMG 5-spoke are the best option, IMO.

given the amount of brake dust these cars kick off the least spokes the better those AMG wheels look great but have to be a king size PIA to clean !!

I like usually like MB 5 spokes and have had many of them over the years but the ones on the SL450 don’t do for me, starting with the amount of black paint. Multi spoke for me

I prefer 5 spoke wheels but not those. IMO the multispokes in the picture look better but, I see too much cleaning......I have the AMG 5 spoke wheels on mine.

My car has night pack wheels! So quite a lot of black apart from the faces. Judging from the comments on here, maybe I should just put up with them! First world problems!

One of my favorite 5 spoke wheels were on our old R230 SL600, test fitted in this pic on our first R231. The front rims came with the $2k Sport Wheel Package and the rears are the older ones.

Here is my current favorite 5 spoke Not an SL though...

IMHO you should go with these for the SL. Best wheels (forged) still easy to clean and they look fantastic on the car. It looks much better than the stock 5 spokes or multi-spokes

Personally - I prefer wheels that are brake dust colored to start with! Gunmetal or black - regardless of the spoke count.

Different strokes for different folks. I actually prefer the multispoke design over the five spoke so much that I focused on finding a car that already had them. It was not a deal breaker for me as I did replace the four rims on a Lexus before, but it was enough to be a major plus column item for the car I ultimately bought.

@Wolfman I counted 10 spokes (5 pairs) in that 2nd picture.

I have the multispoke bicolor on my selenite grey 450 and like them; however, I think the multispoke with your color looks a little too busy/loud and prefer the more classic look of the 5 spoke. That being said, I’d like to see how it looks with the multispoke bicolor.

I have same and never notice the brake dust just transforms them to satin or mat black while polished edges never get dirty. Love them.

If in an area with bad roads need multi spoke or forged ...tires are cheaper than rims haha. I do like bright silver wheels that pop.

Keep in mind can always bead blast or chemical tank strip any wheel then anodize, powder coat, or multistage paint them realitively inexpensively. Anodize is the cheapest as chemical stripped on premisis while bead blasting (glass, walnut) is likely at aircraft refinishing or restoration shop both have topcoating.

I am a fan of the multi spoke. But as the poll suggests, both style wheels look good on this car...

LOL! After cleaning BBS RS wheels for many years, cleaning 14 spokes is a breeze!

Wheel Brush

I recently purchased this 18-inch long brush for $11 from Amazon here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08LMJF1K4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1&p ldnSite=1

and I am very pleased on how efficient and effective it is for cleaning wheels.

I agree with Wolfman on the forged, AMG, multi-spoke wheels. Indeed, it was his raving about them that sold me on them and in the end, I could not be happier. These came in several finishes. Mine are in polished aluminum, which came on the 2017 SL65. I did, however, make the decision to go with 19” all around, rather than 19’s in front and 20’s in the rear, as I was looking for the best ride quality. I’m very happy with the end result.

Green one on the left, round one like yours, Blue & white with black bristles on right and the black handled one on the right are all used when I do my wheels properly....I sometimes worry about my mental state..

Does anyone have just one pair of shoes? I'm used to having two sets I think I will expand to four sets

IMO best to have three sets of wheels, electric impact and hydraulic jack or rotary with a nut welded on the end (what I have).

It literally takes 30 min to swap wheels.
