I got my lunar blue SL almost a year ago. Recently, the dealer offered me what I paid to sell it back to him. Then Carvana offered me several thousand more than that. The car has about 61,000, mechanically sound, normal wear and tear.
While speaking at a conference in Florida today I visited a dealership and found a gorgeous SL with 5,900 miles on it. Literally looks show room new. Good Carfax, serviced at an MB dealer, etc. I negotiated a deal and am having it shipped to my home. Selling my SL to Carvana.
I know it may not make sense to some (most?) of you but I want to keep this car a loooong time and, while I paid a pretty price, I also got more than I could have imagined for my SL. In return a got an extremely low mile, well cared for R231.

We had the same color in a S-Class. Looks brown in the sun and black in the evening. One of the classiest paint options.

Let's just say that I overpaid for the car and was overpaid for mine. Buying a depreciating asset is never smart but the joy I will get from what I consider a pristine example of a car I love has value to me that justifies the purchase. I believe that AFTER one takes care of their business they are entitled to a buy a few things that bring them some joy. As a current SL owner I know how much I'm going to enjoy this car and the smiles are worth the money.
