SL/R231: TRUNK WON'T STAY SHUT

TRUNK WON'T STAY SHUT
When I try to shut the trunk I hear some motors engage but the trunk pops open and will not stay shut. This has happened now a bunch of times. I try to shut it three or four times and it still pops open. Finally I manually close it, there is some resistance and it stays shut, BUT a picture on the car with the trunk open is displayed in the dash. It goes away when I stop the car. I looked for a limit switch to see if needed adjusting but can not find one.Has anyone else had this problem? A solution? Location of a limit switch? (2014 SL 550)

I had a similar problem with my 2004 SL500. I found that I had to make sure the doors were unlocked. Weird!

As a last resort I sprayed some WD40 in the latch. Shouldn't hurt. I also ordered a manual, CDs. Hope it will give me some insight. Also in another post that I mistakenly got into they said there was a switch in the glove box that did stuff to the trunk. I'll check that out.

When we had our 2013, we had a similar issue, particularly when the weather turned cold. After chasing a number of other possibilities, it ended up being the trunk struts. Replaced them and the closing issue went away. Might want to check your struts if they have not been replaced.

I keep the KEYLESS-GO key in my pocket. If it happens again I'll increase the distance between the key and the car. Before I replaced the struts I'd want to be sure that was the problem but something to look at.
