January SL musings, top down, of course!

I’ve posted similar photos in the past and made similar comments as well but here I go again.

Yesterday, we had very strong winds that blew every spec of clouds out of the area. Today, it was still a bit breezy, but a “picture postcard” day here in south coastal Orange County. So, I figured that it was high time I took my SL out for a run. This is a shot as I descended Newport Coast Drive, towards the Pacific Ocean, at about 2pm today. It was 71 degrees and just spectacular weather for top down driving. This is one of the very few perks to living in idiotic California.

When I think about what my SL450 cost me, every time I drive it, I am truly amazed at how much car it is, compared to what else one might have bought with the same money. Honestly, these cars were absolute bargains and now new ones are no more, until the much more expensive, completely different, R232’s arrive. Oh well.

Dropped by golf course in Thousand Oaks yesterday to hit a few ***** with top down of course. When a few friends stopped by to hover over my car, I put the top up. Even though I am sure they have seen it before, everyone continues to marvel. A few days earlier one of my friends referred to it as very James Bond-like. You have to love a car that can become a convertible on moment and a coupe the next.

Envious.
I can only look at our convertible in the heated garage. I think we had minus 10 degrees as a low without windchill
Love the pic!!

You have my sympathy. It is almost too hot here in SoCal right now.

Only 65 degrees Fri and Sat here, but I was top down, air scarf and heat on, windows and wind defector up and I was nice and toasty on the highway. It’s 32 degrees two days later, so back in the SUV today. (Sniff, sniff)

Yea I’ve had mine 5 years now and driving it never gets old. Used car prices here are crazy (chip shortages etc) and I sometime think about selling it & then take a short drive with it and all those thoughts vanish. We are currently enjoying storm Dudley to be closely followed by storm Eunice (60mph winds & rain) .
