SL/R231: Reusable Bolts

Reusable Bolts
On my 276 engine the front timing chain cover bolt heads are painted blue. Does this mean that work has been carried out in that area. So I assume they would be plain from factory.

The factory and some indy's do that to show if the bolts have been removed.
Blue cracks and some fall off if you put a wrench on the bolt.
More likely from the factory - but a conscientious mechanic might have done so

Dealer resealed my M276 cylinder head covers and daubed them with blue. It’s a practice used to indicate proper torque has been applied.
Many of the engine cover screws are aluminum and are single use with very low torque specs.

Not necessarily. My engine had blue paint on the bolts when I bought it one year old with 3,000 miles. Low probability the bolts were replaced because I nagged my dealer 3 times to reseal the leaking front covers. The point is the covers were leaking, and unlikely they were resealed prior to 3,000 miles.
