Rain recently, rain coming, but NO rain today!
We have actually had a winter this year in Southern California, with some truly incredible downpours. But today was one of those “picture postcard” days, so I took Mighty Mouse out for a spin. What a joy to drive this car! The ride is truly amazing with ABC, 19” forged wheels and conventional tires. Meanwhile, over on 232, guys are paying $200K+ for cars with rag tops that can go faster than they know how to go. Cheers!

These forged wheels were original equipment on the 2017 SL65, where there were 19’s in front and 20’s in the rear. I ordered four 19’s, as I wanted a more compliant ride, but did use slightly larger tires in the rear. They are polished.

I love silver painted or polished wheels. Not a fan of chrome. The wheels I have were offered by MB in numerous finishes. A great place to just look at all the OEM wheels or to buy them, is alloywheelsdirect.net. I bought mine from them. Really good people there. This is how they came to me:

I remember first coming to SoCal during '84 Olympics. Bought a Suzuki GS550E the next Spring and on my way down to San Diego on the 405 remember following Merlin Olsen in his SL. On Saturdays Thrifty sold ice cream cones for a Nickel a scoop! Uncle had just retired LTC from the Army and built his home just off the Southbay Freeway near the Spring Valley Swap Meet. His backyard had an excellent view of the Sweetwater Reservoir. That Lifestyle seemed like a dream coming from NYC and lake effect snow in Rochester, NY.

Thank you! Did you know that Merlin Olsen owned a Porsche dealership in Encino back then? I wonder what the folks at Porsche would have said about him in an SL? But, as a member of the “Fearsome Foursome,” I doubt he could fit in any 80’s Porsche. I’m amazed he fit in an SL! I met him once. Great guy and HUGE! Also, you do know that the photo I posted is overlooking Newport Beach Harbor, right?

Didn't know that Merlin owned that dealership in Encino. Assumed driver was Mr. Olsen by his vanity plates and large head and frame behind the wheel. Flew back to Texas every Thursday Night or Friday afternoon later 2008-2011; normally SWA banked over Palos Verdes but sometimes further south over Huntington or Newport Beach. More familiar with Dana Point and TRW's Capistrano Test Site where they tested Rocket Engines and High Power Chemical Lasers that used Rocket technology. I lived in El Segundo during the week and took the Torrance #8 bus to LAX. Left my 1994 Caprice Classic with LT1 V8 or 2009 Pontiac G8 GT parked over the weekend on secured work campus on El Segundo Blvd close to where the Lakers practice on Nash. Had a CA driver's license and plate for the Suzuki that I bought at Marina Del Rey Dealership before transfer to White Sands Missile Range in NM.
