Safety Warning
I decided to treat all the rubber seals yesterday. I started the engine and lowered the roof about halfway and left the engine running while I started treating the seals. After several minutes, not sure how many, a warning beep started and the top began to close.
So it's not true that the top will remain stationary in a partially open state even with the engine running. At least this was my experience.

I have left the top partially open with the car running and off. The roof never closed until I closed it. I had it open to treat the seals, so it was open for a while, although I do not remember how long that was.
I have seen videos online of people using a. brace to hold the roof partially open.
