I wanted to give a quick tutorial on r231 puddle lamp replacement. I have no dog in the logo no logo preference… I happen to like them. If you have an r231with plain puddle lamps you can order logo lights from a later model year that came with logo lights. My 2016 came with no logo puddle lamps.. other later models had them. Another thread got me on the search for a part to fit my car. This thread should serve as an instructional post to replace the lamps .. with or without logo. We are talking about swapping a part referred to as cover trim.. the very bottom of the mirror. Here are the parts I ordered WITH logo.
The first step is to remove the glass mirror. To do this move the mirror all the way to one side creating a gap for the plastic tool and pry it out gently… pops right out easily.
Now the top cover is removed by pulling almost straight up.. it took a little wiggling and a bit of force. There is a plug here which may become dislodged from its mount during disassembly.. check and reposition if needed.
Instal The top cover , it will take some wiggling and positioning but it will go. Be conscious of the plug which must slide in verticaly. It all should click together and look like this
The last step is to replace the mirror, it snaps in easily with two thumbs where my fingers are. Press firmly and double check . Check all mirror functions and you are done
So this car is new to me… just got it. I have not figured out exactly how to get these to illuminate. Thought I had it set correctly in the dash but last night they didn’t work… trying to figure this out. I’ll let you know how I’m doing
Honestly I never checked. Car had 14 k miles so I feel I’ve made a mistake and I’m not setting it correctly. I’ve been through the manual but what I found wasn’t much help. Considering the “factory reset “ option

So I checked my settings and as far as I could see they were correct but still not working.I tried factory reset and they worked. Set all things back to my preferences and they still work properly. So mystery fixed… but maybe not solved. They are quite a bit brighter than expected. More than adequate for real ground illumination.
So I looked under my Mirrors and mine already have the multi LED "bulb" in there... what's odd is that I have never seen them come on nor can I figure out how to get them to come on! I highly doubt that both sides have burned out LEDs. When you say you factory reset everything, are you talking about in the COMAND center?

I noticed my 2013 does have the LED up under the mirrors but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to get them come on! When you say you "reset" things are you referring to a reset of COMAND unit?

VERY cool upgrade and thanks for the tutorial. After reading through this this morning I checked my car to see if it had puddle lights and was amazed to find them. Hit the lock and unlock on the remote and there there were! They are the basic lights but new to me. Our 2024 Porsche Macan GTS has lights under the front and back doors that shine "Porsche" on the floor which the grand kids think is cool. If I was 30 years younger I'd do the upgrade the get the Mercedes logo on our SL63.
