What car do you have? I assumed it was an SL because that's the forum where you asked. If not, you need to be more specific. In case you do not have a turbo engine, I would say to save your money. Software tunes on a NA engine generally produce negligible increases.
I have the Vivid Racing VRTune that I like a lot. Stage 1 is 392hp. It's a software flash using the OBD port. However, it's about $1500. Vivid does have a hardware box that is about ½ the price and allows you to select multiple programs and is removeable should you need to. I can't speak to how well it works, but I do know Vivid has excellent customer support.

I can't help you for the US, but I recently had my SL400 custom tuned on the dyno here in the UK for the sum of $700 USD. It gained an extra 100HP (took my 2014 SL400 from 330 to 430 BHP) and more or less 100nM of torque. Outstanding results.
I also had the gearbox remapped by a company called JF Automotive here in the UK. That was about $350 and has made a massive positive difference to the car. They do supply the same map to customers in the US in an OBD tool so that you can do the flash yourself. Might be worth checking out...

EuroCharged ECU Tune is very popular. Stage 1(suggested if you still have catalytic convertors) usually starts out around $1,500
Good for 100hp increase and 135-150 ft/lb torque increase(peak), depending on exhaust configuration.
