SL/R231: Replace Hood Emblem

They can be easy or they can be REALLY on there!
I think some shops must put them on before the paint is dry

I’ve had some luck slightly lifting one end with a small wood or plastic pry bar, and slipping dental floss just to lift it enough to slip fishing line in there. It can be a pain and fishing wire can dig into your paint so be careful. Tape all around the area.
Here’s a thread with some images of how it clips into the bumper, should give you an idea of what’s involved.

Good Luck!

*just a warning, this guy struggles for over 7 minutes in this 8-1/2 minute video, but he succeeds in the end.
**I bought a couple of cheap (but good looking) emblems on Alibaba. It was pretty simple to remove the spring-loaded clip off the back and that leaves the badge with two pins like the OEM but they don't align the same and the emblem itself is smaller and curves differently. With some double-sided tape it fit here instead:
Here's the proper fit hood badge I'll install in the spring:
As an aside, when I was shopping for the SL badge I swore up and down that it went in the hood on my car, not on the bumper. Not sure how I messed that up.
