Trunk not locking in cold weather

There are multiple posts this morning on the W222 of owners' trunks not locking in cold weather. This was my experience yesterday:https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w222/802889-trunk-would-not-stay-closed.html

Hope it helps if you have issue again

thank you. Lietrally worked by pressing the green button

Ill just replace the latch

Interesting so is it software or hardware issue?

There were 10+ posts yesterday from owners who all had the same issue as I did. Several mentioned there was a recall for the motor that pulls down the trunk. No one posted the part number or the service bulletin but several said they purchased the replacement motor from MB for $450.

Yup, that was all it took. I thought I was in for a costly trip to the MB dealership. All it needed was a night in a slightly warmer garage and my trunk operation returned to 100% normal.

I had that problem a couple weeks ago when it was very cold out. The problem was that I was not at home and I had valuables in my trunk. I finally tried closing the trunk using the switch on the driver's door and it worked.

Obviously it is a car that needs to be driven in warm weather !

Clearly there's a problem if the trunk won't work in cold weather, as it should. I had the same problem with my SL (R231). The problem was the trunk latch. There are micro switches in the latch that give the computer position information. One of the switches was sticking in cold weather. There's a thread on this forum about it where I go into great detail about how I found it.

Ouch! Hope it works. I'm think a little WD-40 might help.

One of the soft close doors on my Cayenne gets lazy (doesn’t work) intermittently below 20F. Works perfectly above that temp.

Not worth a warranty trip to the dealer.

I have a 2018 S560 and my trunk lid has been giving me problems the past 6 mos. I had read the comments about the cold weather and it does seem like every time I have the issue of it not staying closed, it is cold outside. However, this last time it wasn't that cold out and it took me probably 15 minutes of trying for it to finally stay closed. Same examples/remedies as others. Would hit the reset/green button in trunk, tried the trunk switch in drivers door, etc. I even took it to MB locally and they said they made some adjustments and felt like the issue was fixed. Of course, later that night after I picked it up, I was in the parking lot of grocery store stuck with the same problem trying to get it to close. So, I went online and ordered a new trunk latch that is arriving today. Will replace the latch and report back after giving it a few weeks to see if it fixed the issue. That bulletin on this thread, I had never seen before and I do remember asking my MB advisor if they had seen anything come out from MB about this issue or it being common, and they said no.
