Has anyone replaced a windshield seal?

The seal around the windshield is showing signs of age. It is very brittle and starting to crack in multiple places. I believe I found a correct part number, A2317200078, but the new part is ~$450 + shipping from EU. It seems excessive for a piece of rubber. I did find used seals on eBay, but most of them are from Europe. What I want to know is if the parts from Europe (right-hand drive vehicles) will fit. I'm asking because some of the item description states for right-hand drive vehicles.

I would check with Safelite and ask if they can replace it. They replace windshields every day and likely have to replace seals as well during glass replacement. JMHO

FYI.. I had a bad experience with SAFELITE when they replaced the windshield on my 2019 SL450 after being guided there by my insuror. They misrouted the washer tubes, left screws in the floor (the guy claimed he used his own?), lost a wiper arm bolt cap, and then denied anything was done improperly. I fixed all the issues myself including buying the bolt cap from the dealer that SAFELITE said was never there.

There are two long-time glass companies here in Nashville that offer superb service. Will go there for any future work.

SAFELITE... never again.

PS... in the 3 hours I was at their shop, better than half of the other folks who came through were there for a remedial fix for a prior repair. Not a confidence builder for sure.

Others may have a different story...

I have had the exact opposite experience. I have had 2 windshields replaced on my X5. Both at Safelite. Perfect job including recalibrating all of my cameras and a free set of wiper blades. Clearly, each shop is managed locally and the service provided depends on the employees at each shop. Sorry you had a bad experience. My insurer, Erie, uses Safelite and I am a happy customer.

I also have Erie. They set up the repair with SAFELITE.

I had a similar experience to ZCARGUY and will never go to Safelite again.

After multiple attampts to get a replacement windscreen fitted correctly I gave up and paid the MBZ/Audi/Porsche dealership to put things right.

While Randall is correct and 'each shop is managed locally and the service provided depends on the employees at each shop.' I found dealing with Safelite at all to be a miserable experience - in person, calls to the manager, calls to call center, calls to HQ, escalations, and email... The final straw was when they called to confirm the appointment to 'fix the problem', but nobody knew what the problem was or how they were going to fix it.

SAFELITE... never again.

I took the car into couple of local collision centers and after day or two of searching they both told me that part isn't available for sale anymore. In order to replace the seal, I would have to take the car to the dealership and have them replace the entire windshield. This sounds like load of crap. I'll try calling Safelite as you guys mentioned and see if they give me a different answer, but I won't hold my breath. I'm hoping someone had experience replacing the seal using a used part from ebay.
