Display problem

Hello everybody,
As mentioned in my previous post I have replaced the battery in my 16 SL550, everything is fine with the exception of the small cluster display, showing the speed and other info, the bottom part of the screen, including the frame is off, whatever else is displayed is fine, any idea what ( and if ) something can be done.
Thank you very much for your input !

Does your screen look anything like this? Which display style? https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post9116193

Um, I recommend taking off the file just upload a screenshot of the screen. I do see the screen now though.

I did not, what is in that thread is beyond my level of expertise. I took the car to Mercedes to change the AUX battery, they did and also the hooked their equipment to erase apparently all the codes, as mentioned in my previous message besides that lower blank portion of the screen there is nothing wrong with the car.

Forgot to mention, the AUX battery was replaced prior to the main one.

Have a look at your owners manual….
There are a few display/option settings available and ways to reset.
Starting on page 200 in the manual I have, The procedure does vary slightly, so check YOUR owners manual.

To reset NTG back to default

Thank you, I did it using the reset menu in the right hand side display, it is a Canadian car and the settings using the steering wheel doesn't give me that option, anyway the reset was done but no change..

I looked at your pic….
Maybe you can clarify “off”?
Is the display shifted over physically or are the numeric values it’s displaying incorrect?

I don’t see it shifted over. But maybe the pic is too close, not showing enough depth/perspective? Is this what your actual dash currently looks like?
I can’t help to think everything got reset when they replaced your battery, and the display is back to “default” settings.
hence why nothing changed when you reset it to default.

The lower half area should be like the top one, so basically, half ( the lower one ) of that display looks dead ( what it is showing inside, speed, mileage, etc is fine ) after they replaced the aux battery the whole thing was ok, it came this way after I replaced the main battery...I should probably go the Mercedes dealer and show them this, the problem is that the one I'm using is at 90 miles away....
Anyway, thank you very much !

Ah so the pdf attached isn’t actually the pic of YOUR actual dash.
If it is indeed a dead LCD you should definitely return the car to them ASAP. At least call them and give them a heads up….
Changing the aux battery usually doesn't reset the car unless you disconnect the main battery. I know there are places that sell that LCD panel in the dash separately, so it is a possible that it failed if the LCD’s are actually dead.

Good Luck!

Thank you, in fact this happened after I did change the main battery, I did find another procedure to reset the computer, I will try it tomorrow and see if it will fix this, otherwise I can probably drive the car like that, we'll see.

In case it is the LCD or anyone ever needs to replace one:

https://store.minitools.com/en/video...QkTS1i6QFS2Bq1

Yours would not be the first MB IC LCD to fail 😕

hopefully not the case….

Maybe you have the latest update and that was an intended change per a new software update, that your dealership might had performed when swapping the battery?

That’s what I thought too, that it had been reset to the default display layout. But unless I’m off base, I believe @tx170754 posted a picture of the “style” of his instrument cluster, NOT the actual picture of HIS screens current condition. He commented that his screen looks like the one in the repair video I posted.
If the bottom half of his screen is dead, it could be his LCD panel.
As with all things internet, sometimes things get lost in translation

Ahhhh thanks for clarifying!
Well if that’s the case, then I think your display has been reset to default settings. I don’t see anything physically wrong with the LCD screen itself in that picture. (Which is great news for you)
Chances are you’ll be able to reset it how you’re used to seeing it. Look through that owners manual!

Internet diagnostics

Guys, thank you so much !
Just looked at my S560, it is a little different than the one in the SL, but, you're right, there is nothing wrong with the LCD screen, there is a reason that it looks this way versus "the other way before" but I have to play with all the settings to find out !
We'll keep you posted !
Thanks again !

Yup glad it is all cleared up now, seems like normal behaviour.
