Exterior Mirrors Do Not Fold

I have a 2013 SL550 that I picked up a year ago. For some reason, the mirrors do not fold when the car is locked.

I thought it was a setting that needed to be adjusted, but when I look in settings under "Convenience", there is no option for the folding mirrors. I scrolled through all the others settings and and didn't see anything covering the mirrors. Additionally, when I press the button to fold the mirrors, nothing happens which is odd. I can adjust both mirrors with the buttons on the panel, but cannot fold them in. I understand the power folding mirrors are standard on these cars and since there is a button to fold the mirrors in, seems like that function should work. Wondering if perhaps there is a blown fuse, but not seeing which fuse covers this in the fuse charts I've been able to find. Also wondering if there is a setting somewhere that I've missed.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

The attached link has pdf. files for fuse location and assignment “as of 2017" and "up to 2017" model years.
Fuses 2 and 3 are assigned to the left and right “Door Control Unit” and are located in the right engine compartment fuse box.
https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...ml#post8237257

Also attached is a pdf. of fuse assignments for MY 2019.
Fuses 2 and 3 are assigned to—among other things--the “Exterior Mirror Function” and are also located in the right engine compartment fuse box.

Good luck!

Thanks for sending this link over. I'm sure it will be really helpful beyond this issue. I'll take a look at those fuses and see if that's the issue. Hopefully an easy fix!

Your 2013 SL550 is not equipped with option code 500 Power Folding Mirrors. I recall my VMI (Vehicle Master Inquiry) or the build sheet for my 2013 SL550 showed option code 500 was removed. This is probably the same for your 2013. My 2020 has option code 500, and they do fold when the car is locked, or from the door switch. The side view mirrors also illuminate the MB star onto the ground, which I think is a nice feature.

Thanks Thor! Glad to hear that's an issue that I'm not going to have to chase down. Really appreciate the help on this!

OP should check his VIN

Some 2013’s do have folding mirrors. (see below)
Projector puddle lights are upgradeable too

I pulled the build sheet from the VIN lookup. As Thor pointed out, there is no option 500 included or reference to power fold mirrors, which indicates this was not an option purchased. Interestingly, the 2013 SL sales brochure does not mention power fold mirrors or indicate that is an option that can be included on the car. Since power fold doesn't show up in the convenience settings, looks like this car did not have this feature included. Good to have the minor mystery figured out. Either way, doesn't really impact the overall enjoyment of the car.

Thanks for all your input!
