The side effect of this is that the Mercedes Me app thinks that the ignition is on and communications with the car are disabled.

Of course, this isn't acceptable in the long run, and one would hope that enough feedback from owners directly to MB or a dealer will result in a software update to fix this.

How do we travel with our SL’s when we are not able to use a trickle charger ????

I have communicated with the office of the CEO USA and brought this issue with clarity to their attention. I have reason to believe it is matter is now on their radar. Only time will tell if they are willing and able to find on a solution.

Besides annoying and inconvenient, it is not acceptable to me that owners of this kind of vehicle should have to jump through hoops to keep their car in their garage.

Let's stay optimistic and keep our fingers crossed.

Don't expect reasonable solutions or admission of culpability..........recall the biodegradable wiring issues. DENY DENY DENY

I'm disappointed in the engineering and design of the R232. I planned on ordering ( at a discount!!) a SL63e ( or whatever the 800HP model is called) I'm on the fence at this point

Thank you for contacting the CEO of MBZ USA. Can you share the contact information so that all of us may contact him as well ? Is it Dimitris P. ? Thanks again.

The only 800 hp SL on the horizon that I could find comes from a German tuner called Mannhart. It is highly unlikely to ever make it to the USA and I suspect the price tag will be a lot higher than $ 270 k.

Here's a link about the 800+HP version? 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL63 E-Performance Plug-in Hybrid Spied Looking Pretty In Red | Carscoops

I also spoke to an owner of a MB dealership at a Gullwing Convention.........he told me he was at a test track with the 800+hp version . The dealer's version parallels the story above. I believe it's a reality, now only if MB could debug

Best regards

I just spoke with a local dealer who has a new SL55 that was just received today, we had asked if it could be seen outside and were told the vehicle cannot be moved until the batteries undergo a full charging process for 24 hrs. I wonder if this has something to do with the recent battery issues/warning lights.

Can you share the contact info for Dimitris ? My brand new SL63 that I’ve had since Dec. 26, 2022, now with only 331 miles I believe has spent more time at the dealer than with me ! Again, today I had to drive 40 plus miles round trip with the second key to unlock the car that they left the key in all night !!

I think it does take about a day to fully charge the battery if its down low;

My car sat at the dealer for about 5 weeks to work out the battery issues; my dealer stepped up and compensated me for this time. If you drive the car regularly the battery should be fine; I keep mine on the trickle charger now and am looking forwaard to driving it more when spring finally comes.

Does any know how the comfort softness/firmness differs between touring and performance pkgs? The perf suspension it’s categorized as a sport susp so I’m assuming it’s firmer even in comfort comp’d to touring.

As I shared with the community ( above) I have been in touch with the office of the CEO for North America and I would like to provide a very encouraging update.

I received a call today from MB that this matter is now being looked at by MB Engineering. MB had wanted me to take the car to my dealership so that they can take a look at the situation in detail.

Regretfully, we are currently in Florida and will only return to DC where this car is, at the end of May. I will be contacted them then and take the car to my dealer.

However, in my communications I have made it quite clear that this is not an isolated issue related to my car and pointed them in the direction of this thread and I am quite certain there are other members who are in contact with MB and who will be contacted.

Net, net, I am happy that this matter has indeed made the radar of the right authorities and that there is a legitimate effort to deal with this.

Tifoso48, thank you so much ! I sincerely appreciate your help !! I contacted MBUSA Customer Service by telephone last week but so far I have not heard back. I e-mailed the VP Brand Manager as well yesterday. So we’ll see ? I picked up my brand new SL63 on December 26, 2022 and I believe that it has been at the dealer more than I have had it !

I would think your car qualifies for the Lemon Law; I would be bringing that up with your dealer if you already havent.

Thanks. Yes, I have mentioned the Lemon Law to our dealer. Now they treat me like I have a “disease”! They just don’t get it — it’s the car, but not the dealer ! In California apparently a lawyer who specializes in Lemon Law is required. One good thing in our favor however is that MBZ owns my car. With all of the new electronics, I leased ours! Never did it before but now glad I did ….

MB SL 55
Not my experience. The Mercedes App has a problem though. MB "improved" the App relatively recently. My 2021 GLE 63s now shows the same notifications with the new App and I've let that car sit many times for 2+ months with no charger and no problem. Even when the SL shows fully charged on a trickle, the 12v low battery notification often pops up. I've left the SL car sitting, no charger for 2 weeks (most so far) and it starts right up. Two things are important. Keep it locked and keep the key far away from it. The key and the car are in constant communication if in proximity and that does cause a noticeably faster battery drain. These low battery notifications on both cars drove me crazy but I now ignore them to no ill effect.

We are currently in Florida and my SL is in DC on a charger.

Amazingly, I received a message today that my starter battery is critical. I do not believe there is a problem with the charger, and there is no good reason for the battery to be drained. So, it has to be a wonky app/software - just nuts.

Battery warning update absent

I have had my SL63 hand washed each week at my house since I bought it early last August. Every one of those prior weeks, I got multiple critical and very critical battery warnings in both text and email formats while the wash was being done. The car also usually turned off remote fob access. Today, for the first time, there were warnings at all during the normal wash and the fob remote works fine. I wouldn't make too much of this other than it being uniquely different from the prior approximately 28 events. Maybe they made a software update without a notification? Will see what happens next week.
