The SL NEEDS PPF
I’ve had my SL55 for a month now and I’ve driven her about 800 miles.
As my car is Obsidian Black, I had PPF installed from the a-pillars forward and the entire car ceramic coated before I took delivery from the dealer.
So, while detailing the car, I noticed quite a bit of chipping on the rockers directly in front of the rear wheels. I immediately brought the car to my PPF installer and had the rockers PPF’ed.
He told me that he had 3 other SL customers come in with the same chipping and that MB should have included a piece of film in that spot like Porsche does for the 911.
Any current owners out there that care about that kind of stuff should check the rockers and get them wrapped ASAP.

About $550-$600
For me, I have the front end, a-pillars, above windshield, mirrors, and rockers.
Entire car is ceramic coated (including all PPF on the car) and windows tinted 35% with ceramic tint.
All together the cost is $4500

Thanks for the heads up. I picked up my new SL55 this afternoon. I can already predict that my wife’s rings will scratch the doors when she pulls the exterior door handles. I will probably get the entire car done with ppf tomorrow instead of just the front clip.

I didn't know that they were going to treat the soft top. They tend to use Gtecniq products. I plan to use the Gyeon Wet Coat periodically as a hydrophobic topper on the entire car. It looks super easy to apply.
