I was afraid of that…
I think, to summarize, the writer really liked the car calling it a “magnificent total package” while referring to it as “timely, not timeless.” His biggest complaint seemed to be of the MBUX system. This is a quote describing the driving experience:
”where the SL really shines is how it all feels. It is engaging enough to make you feel like a part of the experience, rather than a conductor of a machine smart enough to do what is asked of it. That is a feat in anything, but particularly in a car with so many systems between the driver and the road. It all feels connected…”
Overall, a nuanced and balanced review.
Anybody interested in reading the entire review can PM me.

I think the writer also was concerned that this car may have too many missions - be the next Sl, replace the AMG GT, take the place of the S cabriolet -- so many missions, that it is not focused enough on a single mission However, he went on to compliment the car saying how close the car gets to fulfilling all of them.
This is not the first time I have heard this line of thinking from the motoring press and they probably are not wrong, and I think this impression has been made more problematic by MB for marketing reasons picking the SL moniker.

Good review and many fair points. The MBUX can definitely be intimidating at first but once settled with the car becomes plenty easy. Typically I would find iDrive better but the new iDrive 8.0 in my opinion is overly cluttered and even more confusing due to its long menus and hidden AC controls. I really wish MB would make it more obvious that you can use the top button to put the top up and down, too many reviewers keep only mentioning the touch screen sliders when you can just use the button by tapping once, then pressing again and holding.

If you have a Mac, click on the OP link and have it open in safari, then click on "reader view" on the left side of the white box at the top of safari and you can read the entire article without being a member. Overall seems like a positive and fair review.

I watched on YouTube the other day titled New SL53 and the temporary license plate reading SL53. The badge on the vehicle reads SL55. Lol, bunch of idiots!
