SL/R232: Loss of power
Mercedes Fuel Pump recall on 2022-2023 SL's
I asked him if his foreman could check the fuel pump but he stated that since their computer system did not indicate any mechanical failure whatsoever he would not do it.
I talked with my Service manager today, and indeed my car is in the "range" of Vin numbers which are being recalled.
However, the recall will only be effective as of September 15, by which time MB will have announced the proper replacement part #.
Of course,I am not going to keep my car at the dealership until then, and so, they will replace the fuel number under warranty today and we will see if at the time that the recall becomes active if there is a different part number.
I think my dealership is being very accommodating and helpful, the very reason that I have been a loyal customer for 25 years.

I got my car back today - the dealer replaced the fuel pump, and of course now I am keeping my fingers crossed that this fuel pump will not have the same problem - oh well - time for some optimism.
I have never had a fuel pump replaced, so do not know if this is normal but I am detecting a strong smell of gasoline.
Is this normal and will dissipate over time? When should I start getting nervous about that?

Not surprising, sadly, to see new product launch failures by MB, and failure to properly repair (leaking fuel) by MB dealers. MB and its dealers conjure the image of a smoldering dumpster fire to some.
......…………../QUOTE]I was going to say that, but being the negative guy I am about these SLINO’s I didn’t think my comment would be appreciated.
I am not a technically savvy person, but I have to assume that replacing the fuel pump which sits on the tank involves to some degree contact with fuel and the tank, and I suspect that is when some gasoline may have spilled and gasoline is a very long lasting, strong and distinct smell.
of course now I am focused on the performance of the new fuel pump. The dealer is very aware that any more episodes of the engine stalling will mean this car will be returned to MB.
