Annoying SOS Inoperative
For the last month I have intermittently been getting"SOS Inoperative" notices on the driver's screen. Push the OK button on the steering wheel to acknowledge, then have to do it around 20 more times on the same 30 minute drive. it would seem that a Smart intuitive car like our SL would recognize by the 20th time n 30 minutes that it had been acknowledged 19 times before. I am finally taking it in for service on Monday hoping they can kill or cure this constant notification irritation. I wouldn't be surprised to find the haptic OK button is worn out.
Anybody else seeing this repetitive annoyance?

I was just researching this on the forum.
The same feature is available on other cars, but has different names.
They basically narrowed it down to having the headlights on for at least 2 minutes, without the engine on, then restarting the car. Moisture related I assume.
The second cause was connectors in the trunk that were having moisture problems or corrosion.
The third cause was the dealership resetting, or disabling the feature.
I was getting the same indication, the dealership updated the software to the most recent, and it all but went away.
Then, while driving in the rain, it reappeared.

Sometimes these problems are just software issues with the car's infotainment or communication systems. In my opinion, a software update or reset might fix it.

Unfortunately, I had a separate issue where my left-most air vent stopped working and the volume slider area of the steering wheel also stopped working. Got it back from the dealer a couple days ago where they also did some software updates. As soon as I started the car at the dealer, the SOS Inoperative message came up. I'm sure it's software but doesn't look like they have a fix (I even told them about it)

You should talk to the service manager about finding long-term solutions for these ongoing software problems. Sometimes, there are fixes for persistent issues that aren't applied automatically and might need you to push for them or ask specifically.
