SL63 E-performance
Hello everyone,
I just received my new SL E-performance, it’s a day and night change/upgrade from the regular SL 63. I kept the regular 63 for about a year, with no serious issues or problems.
Now the trunk is much smaller, but the regular daily drive is so much improved because of the instant torque of the electric unit. The car jumps forward as soon as you touch the pedal, no delay whatsoever. I just use the comfort mode all the time. With the previous model I was using Sport mode mainly because of the transmission delays.
I don’t really feel the extra weight on regular roads, No matter how hard I push it. I don’t go crazy fast on the roads, anyway.
It feels a little heavier than an 911, cause it is, but for what I need I never feel it. But I am sure on the track, or on very tight roads, the weight it’s there. I will take it on the track once just to get a feeling of the car, later, after I do the brake in..

Congrats on your new whip! Many happy miles (or looks like kilometers). Are you in Europe? If so would like to hear how the car feels at top speed…

I haven’t heard anything about it. Is it all electric?

Just looked it up.
Plug in hybrid.
Electric motor adds 200 horsepower.
Estimated driving range in all electric mode, approximately 15 miles.
I think the ice portion is the same 4 liter 8 cylinder twin turbo on the standard SL63.
I would be curious to see if the plug in hybrid option is going to cause excessive and rapid wear on the turbos.
I would assume the ice engine cutting on and off would have a deleterious effect on the turbos.

I went to the MBUSA website to build a SL63E Performance. No pricing ( why??) but they had a disclaimer about the chip shortage. I'm pretty sure the chip shortage was over last year. Typical MB
MB was supposed to offer a blue interior, it took 2 years to offer a blue soft top.......blue dye is extremely rare and expensive??

Yeah I agree they price this in the stratosphere as a halo car and can’t even give a blue soft top from launch, decent interior colors, etc… no full leather options (most of the door card is cheapo vinyl if you haven’t noticed), no stitching options, etc. meanwhile Aston Vantage has 20 interior colors in 4 different colorways available, and Mercedes trying to figure out how to charge for ripoff Manufaktur colors which are seemingly the exact same interiors for $10k more?, so “choice” is now an up charge for Mercedes, your not exactly getting more….

It is just like the regular SL63 plus 200 hp (and plus 200KG).
Like I said, in the city the difference is huge, instant power at any speed. Didn’t really floor it for now.
There are plenty of interior colors (I counted about 15 leather), 4 tops (including blue), so on, with leather all of them - always go for the leather in any car).
Also the blue interior (and a green one), not my taste though..
