SL680 Available

Hi all!

My name is Clay! I’ve been poking around here for years; but never made a post.

I work here in Houston Texas and we have a couple VERY rare and hard to get cars become available. I have a white and garnet red SL680 both have the multi-spoke forged wheels.

asking $40k over MSRP on both

please feel free to ask any questions!

Clay

I want to say something, but if I do, it might be interpreted as insulting.

I’ll say it: SHAME ON YOU MERCEDES-BENZ! Whatever happened to understated elegance?

I believe that even pimps will not buy a Maybach SL Pimp Edition...............what marketing genius came up with this stellar idea???? Perhaps if a new V12 was installed????

Just got back from Cannes, there was one there and it was spectacular in real life. In the land of Porsche 918's , Ferrari supercars and Rolls Royces people were standing around taking pictures gawking at it instead. Youre wrong. And whoever posted pictures of those last 4 "modern" Ferraris has all of their taste in their mouth. Their hideous.

Cannes? Are you assuming no other forum members have been there?
Please consider the possibility that you are not as well traveled, or as worldly as others on this forum.
Please also consider that when posting, care should be taken to preclude the possibility that your readers might consider you illiterate, or that English might not be your first language.
Also, hideous is in the eye of the beholder, and can often be the result of a lack of cultivation, aka ignorance.

I’ve been a member of BMW groups for over a decade and I’ve never gotten so many deconstructive comments. All 4 of ours are sold out…people who can afford them buy them and/or order them…I guess the others leave comments on a forum. 🫣

If you aren’t getting the sales you hoped for here, please find greener pastures, instead of berating the forum members.
Your sales techniques leave much to be desired. Maybe they will work better elsewhere, and good luck there.

Hahaha “sales techniques” I posted an available car that has since been sold. Your forum techniques also leave much to be desired. Maybe you can find something more positive on the forum than my poor sales approach.

To a forum member?
How much was the ADM?
If your customer, whom you allege bought your car, is a forum member, then I tip my hat to you.
If not, maybe these wonderful sales skills you claim to have, aren’t effective here.
Consider the possibility that your skills are more appreciated elsewhere.

There are varied tastes in cars and in sales techniques. Clay:......."people who can afford them buy them and/or order them…I guess the others leave comments on a forum." That's a rather presumptuous remark.
The only people that don't buy a Maybach SL680 are those that can't afford it???? I will assume there are many on this forum with ample means to write a check but dislike the SL680's gimmicks.

I'm going to cancel my second GW from Bechtel to order the Pimp Edition SLand I'm willing to pay any ADM, The reason there's a limited production is there's a limited number of consumers willing to buy. The R231 SL65 only had about 725 cars worldwide over 6 years........if MB could have sold 10,000, they would have produced them.

Sophist dealer reasoning well displayed.

LOL, these posters have never seen one in real life (few have) and do the stupid “dissing” comments begin. Guarantee once they see them in real life their tunes will change.

I mentioned Cannes because of the comparison to other crazy exotics there and the attention the car was receiving over even them. I wasn’t trying to show how “well traveled” I am. More thinly veiled jealousy which after all what ****ting on this car looks is really about.

Any idea how many of the monogram edition they are going to make?

Well, I guess our comments are “deconstructive” because we know what the folks in Stuttgart are—or at least were capable of. In my particular case, having purchased my first new MB in 1979, with 16 more to follow, I can’t help but feel as though I am witnessing the utter collapse of a marque that I once cherished and truly lusted after. For the first time in five decades, there is not one model in the current MB line that I have any interest in driving. I hope that changes, but I’m not holding my breath.

The “attention” a car is receiving is not always the same as admiration. Yes I have seen one and yes I already own a new SL63 amongst many other cars. That being said I am not a fan but can appreciate if others like it. IMHO it’s a marketing dept car aimed at a certain niche demographic.

I agree. I guess that one of the additional issues some MB fans might question is the use of resources. Whatever funds were spent to develop such vehicles might have been better spent addressing quality issues that have been plaguing the brand for at least the past five years now. I won’t even start on the electrical issues, but it sure would be a great thing if MB could get their automatic transmissions to operate on a world class level. Either that, or just make the decision to let ZF build them and be done with it.

I guess when I see frivolous offerings such as these Maybach SL’s being developed, I can’t help but wonder if any of the funds funneled into the project might have been better spent on simply trying to bring back the rock solid performance and dependability that the 3-Pointed Star was once known for. It’s like they are going for the quick bucks and ignoring what should be their core values: Mercedes-Benz: The best or nothing.

As our dealer assumed: those that could actualy afford the Pimp Edition with the $50K surcharge would gladly buy one I'm saving up to be in that elite league

Streamliner nails it! MB should concentrate on making reliability and ease of servivce priorities, not the frivolous Pimp edition the upper managment at MB is a disgrace

I'm using the MB Manufactur special order department to include the Fun Fur Dash...........reasonably priced at a mere $9500. I actually asked a large Sarasota MB dealer about ordering the SL63 S e with a Manufactur interior.......he didn't have a clue. Typical.

I think the dice might look better mounted on the ipad that appears to be duct taped to the dash

this is what happens when an engineering company deviates from it's roots

I watched the video and it reinforced every negative feeling I had about the car. I would be embarrassed to drive down the street in this thing.

If I recalled correctly, he was the reviewer that really like the C217 S-Class cab Maybach, although it was a limited edition.
Edit: might be this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezpvGqjur_o

BADGES? We don’t need no stinking badges!
It's 3 o'clock in the morning, I can't sleep, and the dog was yunking to go out.
And, I'm still chuckling over Stream's quote. Too funny. And, true.

To me, ultimate luxury is having something exactly the way YOU want it, not how someone else decides you SHOULD have it.

ONLY an all white interior? Ridiculous, absolutely impractical and can’t you just imagine when the valet gets grease marks on the carpet? But I guess this car is aimed at folks who will keep it until the carpet gets dirty and then trade it in on the next fashion accessory on wheels.

ONLY red or white and ONLY with a black hood? Who dreams up these idiotic choices? If someone is willing to plunk down the big bucks, they should be able to have any colors they wish.

The cover over the rear “cargo area” is a nice touch, but one cannot wonder if they put that there so they could eliminate the horribly old fashioned “removable” wind screen. Can’t have the super rich ruining their manicure futzing with that monstrosity, let alone allowing anyone to see it hanging in their garage somewhere

I like the idea of a softer riding R232 and isn’t it interesting that they can actually offer that with the fire breathing “63” engine? If they can do that, then WHY in the world have they not made the more comfortable suspension standard on the lower 232 models, while offering the stiffer suspension as a performance option for those who want it?

Oh well, enough for a Saturday morning rant. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
