The DD review is actually funny. The marketing genius that decided more Maybach logos are better demonstrates the prolems at MB. The car is a rolling gimmick. Build me a car in my choice of colors, delete the vestigial rear seats,, and make them reliable and easy to service. Do more Maybach logos make a better car?? Does one need to wear Maybach clothing?

Perhaps the R232 fans can clarify a point. The Aston Martin DB12S utilizes the AMG supplied 4.0L BUT it has 690HP and 590Lb-ft of torque. Is there a reason that the genius marketing people at MB like less power?
AM also allows a rainbow of exterior and interior color choices.........wow! Apparently MB believes we aren't capable of making our own picks, we are not worthy or smart enough??

In my observation, for any given model, MB designs a power plant that is underpowered.
Or, there is sufficient power, if more attention was given to weight reduction.
So, generally heavy, and generally underpowered.
One benefit to having an underpowered engine is, more reliability, in general, and less wear and tear.
The R232 claims 577 horsepower, but tuning alone can get you to that Aston Martin number.
The drawback is, potentially voiding any warranty.

When I go to the Build section of MB's USA web site I get a choice of 68 exterior colors...not too bad methinks - Build

I was aware that MB has greatly increased the "potential" exterior colors. I've spoken to 2 dealers, neither had the slightest clue about Manufaktur orders! I must have bizzare tastes. I want a SL63 S E that's plain white ( non-metallic) and a FULL dark blue interior including carpets. door panels and dash, I have several SL cars with that bizarre combination........in 1956,1957,1967, 1968, 1989, and 1993 apparently it was actually possible.

Ther other issue is the upcharges for some exterior colors...........up to $9900 is outrageous. Ordering the Blue/Black interior is a mere $11,350........really??? One more reason sales are terrible for the R232.
