Classy car, no doubt about it. Just sad that the US bumpers are so huge compared to the EU ones

Give us some more pictures. interior/rear

i actually like the US bumpers more than the euros. with those huge things at the front and the rear the SL doesn't look so small and breakable.

they don't look so embarrassing IMO.

enjoy!

I see two things which will effect the value. One- it is not painted in an original color. Anyone who collects MB's, or who would enter car shows wouldn't touch one in other than in original colors. To my knowledge, no metalic green was offered in '84. Secondly, that ain't an OE Bekker radio. That will also detract from the value. Rather than replace the radio, you should consider sending the original radio back to Becker for repair or replacement. If the top has been replaced, must have the original Mercedes logo on the plastic window, and been done with German Happich fabric, not the cheap U.S. "look alike" fabric.

The more you keep the car like it came from the factory, the better price you will be able to command. The interior really looks great! I have an 84 with burlwood, and I love it.

My 84 also is Palomino and refreshed, car has 76K on it approaching 77K.

I'd agree about resale with that color, but if the car has been given that kind of treatment, she's a keeper anyway. (And I like the color)

I've just bought a load of new wood from that benzboy ebayer, it all looks great but no time to install it for now. Pics will follow.

84 380 sl

I have to differ with you .That most certainly is a match to the original color of the car.I have known the two previous owners including the original owner of the car. This is the same color that this car has been through its life.I have the original papers on the car and it was sold by West German Sales Corp of Fort Washington Penn.and was delivered on Aug 16,1984.I happen to have the orginal maintenance booklet and papers on the car.
The color is most defintely the orginial color as can be attested by the inside panels of the doors, and under the hood.It is a unique color as I have only seen several others on the road but I have seen other 1984 380 sl's in that exact color in the area that I now live in.

I have owned this car since 1998.

I did replace the radio some time ago and regret not keeping the original.

The top is not the original I replaced it last year but it is true German canvas.

Its a great car and you could not be more wrong about the color of the car it is exactly the same as it was when I purchased the car in 1998 and when I firsr saw the car in 1994.

A proud owner.

Nice job. It's still about what you like anyway. I'm pretty convinced these cars may never reach any big value simply because there are so many of them.

Still love my '85 with the Becker...(I decided against an upgrade. I can listen to a good system in my other cars.) and the original top that was never out for the first seventeen years.

They are such a classic roadster. I get great comments all the time. The older friend I bought it from had a great quote, "I always felt special driving this car."

Congratulations and enjoy the experience.

I'm sure it is an original color. Probably doesn't come across quite accurately on the web. On my screen it looks like a color from a 74 Mercury. Great job on the restoration.

special car

Thanks for your comments,I like your friends quote about feeling special when i'm driving the car.I have a special feeling for this car in part because I knew the two previous and only owners of the car and they were both very good and nice people...so I guess I have an emotional attachment to the car.

Yes your probably right that the car will never be worth a great deal of money because there are so many of them but they are really such classic great cars that I always look forward to driving the car on beautiful Summer days like today.

Just a great car and good people who previously owned it, has given me the incentive to keep the car in the best of condition that I can.

Always a pleasure being on the road with the top down!!!!

Talking Truly a classic

I love these cars, I have a '76 and love it...Have known this car since its birth and still is driven every Derby Day in Kentucky by the original owner. He sold it to me in 2001 at Derby......All original with right at 67K miles. The soft top needs replacing, but other than that it is mint. I did add the front spoiler, it makes it look sportier and I think it helps with the air flow under the car while drivng....

Love these cars, true classic's. Spendy to get ahold of though, even rough. I'd be happy with the hard top coupe version, slc or somthing? I have an early 70's Bekker radio out of a 250 sedan. Just a radio, no cassette. Has the two big knobs, black face and chrome bezel. I also kept and old vdo dash clock that should in fact still work. That stuff was made as well as the cars..

The Car Looks Fantastic. Is It New Leather Or Dyed. I Just Got My Mom's 83 380SL With 50k On It From So. Cal. And It Has Become My Latest Project. The Leather Is In Good Shape Except For A Couple Of Spots Where The Beige (description On Original Window Sticker) Color Has Rubbed Off.

I love mine and "feel special" each time I take it out of the garage. It gets more wax per mile than most.

But as for the seats, I switched my leather for the FAR more durable MB Tex. It was not a money issue as I over-do anything that needs to be done.

My Navigation + stereo alone is in the $4000 range.

But if you find yourself replacing any of that leather, consider that the MB Tex is darned similar and way more durable. I have no regrets, except that my 65K 300 coupe has leather that is in too good shape to replace with MB Tex yet.

Just my own opinion.
