81 380SL Trans question

Hello all...

A buddy of mine just recently purchased a gem of Benz. Its a 1981 380SL, beautiful car, clean all around.

He just recently started expierencing some shifting issues, it seems as if when it wants to go into 4th gear it hunts or slips for a little before it actually does go into gear. I was wondering if replacing the filter would help out any. If so, is there any trans service kits available for the car? what kind of fluid is recommended. I am in Los Angeles (burbank), anything available locally? Thanks

Tranny fluid and filter should be changed every 2 years. Only use Mercedes transmission fluid. Get the filter and fluid from your dealer. I expect that a change will cure your problem.

All fluids should be changed on a car where you don't have the history. Power steering, brake fluid, tranny, coolant, oil. Use actual MB replacement fluids. These cars are real touchy and the wrong fluid can cause problems.
