Anyone else ever show their SL at carshows
I am finishing a three year rebuild of my 1985 380SL and have now shown it at two car shows taking second and first place. Its been alot of fun and I have been surprised by the amount of people that had never gotten to really see one of these cars close up. Most tell me it was always there parents dream car...........

What kind of car shows have you participated? Do they have a category for foreign cars or just classics or what?
I go to car shows around DFW with my husband and his hotrod. There are very few foreign cars at these shows. My goal is to take my car out when he goes out. But, so far, it's the American Muscle cars that get all the attention in these here parts. The young guys out with their rice burners are barely noticed. Even the ones with impressive horse power.
There is a formidable 'Classic Cars & Coffee' at the large BMW dealership here in DFW once a month, and I know I could take her out there without feeling like a sore thumb.
You got pics?

I've become pretty selective about what car shows to attend. I made the mistake of driving by a Golden Oldies club show last year, and those good ol boys looked at me like I had a swastika painted on the side of the car. This group was the roadster, 55 Chevy and general hot rod group. I stick to european car club gatherings now.
Nearly every time I have the SL out, someone asks where I got it, what is it, etc. It attracts a lot of attention. Fun stuff. I've placed in a couple of shows against other SL's but not in a general, open concours.

I realise this is an old thread, but in case someonetl else stumbles in here with the same question. We have gone to a couple Saturday evening shows at the local Wal-Mart...pretty much good old boys, but did talk to some really nice people. We've been showing a 1958 180D (Ponton). Went to a community 4thof July show, they even had a retired Japanese fire truck there. We plan on taking our '86 560SL too when the shows start back up. Went to a regional German Marque show...lots of fun and a Mercedes Benz section show lots of nice folks.
