Very High Idle
I just bought a 1983 380SL. I am now having a high idle problem.
When cold it runs at about 1000rpm, when hot its well close to 2000.
I have been told it could be the Idle Speed Controller. Can anyone help with what I would need to do to get my car running right?
Also where is this controller?

MBWorld Fanatic!
looks like this
the valve
don't have pic for exact location on the m116
the valve could be the issue before the controller
could also be coolant temp sensor faulty
broken vacuum lines
a host of other issues
sorry don't know anyone up on the island that can help you.

Very High Idle
Harley:
The idle speed air by pass valve (someone sent you a pict.), is located just behind the water pump on top of the intake manifold. One way to test this unit is to pull the elect connector off while the engine is running. If rpms don't change then this valve is not functioning. It could be the valve the idle speed control or something else. If I were you I would try to get my hands on a shop manual. I have one and can give you some info on how to test this unit if you want.
