Hi, I am looking at a 87 SL560. Always like the R107 body style but don't know much about them. I have not seen the car in person yet. But would like to know first hand whether there is any preference of which year of the R107, or specific year I should avoid if any. How is the 87 in general? (It is a bummer that it is not yet qualified to register as an historical car - 25 year old in State of NJ).

Many feel the 560SL is the best choice for a 107. I'm slightly less particular. I'd go with the best conditon car I could find and afford as long as it had one of the iterations of k-jetronic injection.

There is a very comprehensive guide to the 107, but it's on another forum. Take a look at Benzworld.org in the 107 section. They have a "sticky" with an encyclopedia.

+1 on going with a 560SL. It was the last of the series and overall has the least problems. Biggest motor, too!!

Another informative site: http://northernresource.com/mercedes/107.htm

Good luck!!

Wow. Nice info. Wish I knew about these references earlier. Unfortunately, I lost contact with the owner of the '87, assuming he had sold the car already. Back to searching stage...

I found my 560SL through Cars.com, but there is always a bunch of 107's for sale in the Mercedes Benz Club of America classifieds.
