Smooth to Rough

Help! I'm about 16 hours from my destination on a long road trip with my 86 560SL which has run trouble free--until now. Runs fine at high speeds, but idling so rough at slow speeds and traffic lights. Then she's giving me a hard time starting up again. Takes several cranks to get her going-sometimes as much as 20 minutes of crank, wait, crank, wait. Should I dare to try to make it to my destination, or get her into a shop where I don't know anyone? (She was completely checked out by my regular home mechanic and my local dealership before I left, all said "A-OK". 64K original miles.

Are you heading to or away from home?

If it were me and I was heading toward home, I'd probably continue. If I were heading away from home, I'd try to find a local indie or dealer.

Only a slight chance, but you might say where you're at. Someone here might have a good indie they could recommend.

Thanks! We're in Triangle, VA. Someone has recommended Frederiksberg dealership? Was hoping to drive the Skyline Drive, but now I don't dare. Thanks again, Karen

Check the vacuum hoses , it could be that simple. if you hear a slapping or rattle noise when first starting up. STOP, it could be your timing chain.
