Advice from knowledgeable MB enthusiast....please help

Hello, looking to sell my Dad's 1989 560SL. Simply known as "the Baby" in our household. The car was only driven in the summers roughly 1,000 miles per year for the first 10 years. Then around the turn of the century my sister started driving it and put miles and wear on it. Car now has 108k miles, runs well, has a tear in the soft top, has a heater problem that I am told the entire dash needs to be removed. Last year I put new rotors and pads, new exhaust, and steering damper.

Though this car is iconic in our family, my mom has decided to sell it. She was "told" that the repairs would be at least $4k to get it back to great condition. And that in it's current state it's barely worth $3k.

I am reaching out to you forum folk to see if anyone can provide insight on general value, reputable people that I can talk to, places to get replacement parts, and work done etc...

Basically I am looking for any information that can arm me to prevent us from being preyed upon and practically giving the car away. We would be willing to spend the $4k if it would yield better value for the car.

Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

IMO those figures sound honest and after repair I'd put the value at under 10k. How much under....

If I were wanting it gone and it was drivable as-is, I'd wait a couple of months, ask around $5k for it and hope someone made a good offer.

Sell it as is. Do not spend any money on it. You will never get it back. If you start repairing it , the $4k will become a $10k very quickly. These cars are very expensive to repair, unless you do it yourself. Try to sell it for $4k-$5k as is. Good luck.
